02:33 < sipher> So I have another idea for a project that there's no way I could do... I remember seeing some noob project on MAKE (I think?) about using your ipod with a Griffin Total Remote to control TV's etc.. but it was stupid because you had to scroll through and pick the sound "#5" and then "#0" to switch to channel 50 for example..
02:34 < sipher> but I was thinking with IL you could have it download a TV guide and you could read descriptions of what's on etc., hit a button and it would flip to that channel
02:34 < sipher> poor man's PVR type navigation. :P
02:34 < sipher> mans*
02:35 < sipher> Although the Total Remote is apparently impossible to buy.. even on the web now.
02:35 < sipher> So it would have to be via some ipod remote
02:37 < sipher> You could have it remind you of shows coming on too. All kinds of things.
02:39 < sipher> on a side note, MS decides it would be a bad idea to include a UA string in web-services client/servers - http://connect.microsoft.com/wcf/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=124286 heh
02:40 < sipher> "Thank you for this feedback. We are currently considering whether to supply a user agent by default." .. "We have decided to not apply a default brand on the client or server for this release."

09:43 < erus`> yes
09:43 < erus`> tempel, here now
09:44 < tempel> ah. just wanted to let you know that "img files" are indeed .iso files, at least in the mac world
09:44 < tempel> .iso is misleading:
09:44 < tempel> it used to mean that it's sector copy of a CD-ROM with an ISO 9660 file system on it
09:45 < tempel> later it became the extension for all sector-based disk images
09:45 < tempel> on the mac, however, the common term was always "image" or "disk image"
09:45 < tempel> nowadays ".img" and ".dmg" are used as extensions
09:45 < erus`> :O ok
09:46 < erus`> thanks for correcting me

14:12 < tazmin> ido_: both the apple firmware and ipodlinux read the file's ID3 tags, you can change them using a program like gtkpod if you're under linux

14:38 < tempel> none at all? did you install by hand? the smarter way would be to use an installer, then modify what's present. the installer2 does install many text input modules already

14:41 < tazmin> i was wary of using the installer because i had read the installer actually does it incorrectly, placing the linux fs right next to the apple firmware on the disk, and when the ipod tries to suspend-to-disk, it corrupts the filesystem
14:47 < tazmin> tempel: do you know if that's true or a myth?
14:48 < tempel> that used to happen with older installers, not with installer2

17:50 < tazmin> podzilla-ti8 certainly has an interesting effect on my nano

18:16 < tazmin> quick question about the svnbuilds for podzilla2
18:16 < tazmin> are the latest ones the ones with no numbers?
18:16 < tempel> tazmin, yes?
18:16 < tempel> maybe. check the date stamps
18:16 < tazmin> like podzilla2-.gz instead of podzilla2-1234.gz
18:17 < tazmin> yeah i did, looks like - with no numbers are the latest
18:18 < tazmin> alright i'll use those, unusual though

18:28 < haykuro> Hello. I'm in linux and im messing around with my ipod and the linux partition and everything, and im wondering how to get started with programming, or just neat tricks you normally cant do from a windows based computer.
18:29 < davidc__> haykuro: from a livecd? or an actual linux install?
18:29 < haykuro> livecd, im soon to install it tho.
18:29 < haykuro> i tried doing ARM programming for the iPod but im not clear as to how to compile and such.
18:30 < haykuro> im a programmer, so i catch on pretty quickly, but the documentation for developing for the iPod i've seen is very limited, maybe im just not looking in the right places ?
18:31 < davidc__> not a problem - I'll be happy to help you get started
18:31 < haykuro> cool.
18:31 < davidc__> I suggest getting a full install done first - lots of stuff ya need to install - and its a pain to redo it every time you boot
18:31 < davidc__> Then the next thing you need is the Arm toolchain - basically its a version of GCC targeted toward the iPod
18:32 < haykuro> alright
18:32 < haykuro> yea i just found that http://ipodlinux.org/IPod_Programming#Making_a_basic_Hello_World_App
18:32 < davidc__> well, actually any Arm7Tdmi in general
18:32 < haykuro> so im getting ARM setup and ect.
18:32 < davidc__> yup
18:32 < davidc__> also - what kind of programming on it do you want to do?
18:32 < davidc__> HW level? - modules for PZ2? etc?
18:33 < haykuro> modules mainly
18:33 < haykuro> and maybe later on ill do my own podzilla
18:35 < davidc__> haykuro: erm?
18:35 < haykuro> ?
18:35 < davidc__> aka, from scratch?
18:35 < haykuro> lol, nooo
18:35 < haykuro> sorta like floydzilla
18:35 < davidc__> the modules system for PZ2 is pretty powerful
18:35 < davidc__> thats why we developed it
18:35 < davidc__> you can literally rewrite almost any part of PZ2 with them
18:36 < davidc__> why not just make a module that does all that instead yet another PZ clone?
18:36 < haykuro> oh, i have a 2gig nano, so i tried PZ2 and it was super buggy on my iPod
18:36 < davidc__> hrm, which build?
18:36 < davidc__> the latest?
18:36 < haykuro> yea
18:37 < haykuro> it ran slow, and some features didnt work
18:37 < haykuro> and at times the GUI wouldn't show
18:37 < haykuro> and yea, i dont kno the actual use for another PZ clone, other than the challenge it would bring to write one. i do programming for the fun the challenges are.
18:38 < davidc__> eh, if you want challenges - you can work on video support, etc ;)
18:38 < davidc__> video as in TV out on those models that have it
18:38 < davidc__> lots of HW features we don't support yet
18:39 < haykuro> u kno wut i've always wanted to do. make a hack for the iPod to allow a wireless or ethernet adapter, (maybe external usb support for an external wireless card) thus allowing use of internet on the ipod. although that wud require a LOAD of work, im always up for that
18:39 < haykuro> heh, but then again, im just a big dreamer :P
18:39 < davidc__> eh, as soon as we get host side USB working - which there is support for on all 5020 based ipods
18:40 < davidc__> then it should all "just work"
18:40 < haykuro> sounds cool
18:40 < davidc__> because once we get the host side USB recognized by the kernel, any external USB devices that the kernel knows how to work with will just work
18:40 < davidc__> however, theres lots of RE work that needs to be done on that
18:40 < davidc__> and I'm busy working on this iPod debugger
18:40 < haykuro> o
18:41 < davidc__> RE = reverse engineering, if you're new to iPL slang ;)
18:42 < haykuro> lol, nah, i use to do hardware hacks for other junk couple years back. and i had a brief moment when i was into making cracks and keygens
18:42 < davidc__> there seems to be some testpoints on the iPod logic board that run to the main proc - and we know the main proc has jtag
18:43 < davidc__> and if it does have jtag, the jtag likely runs to the 2 arm cores
18:43 < davidc__> which means that we might be able to get a full debugger up and running
18:43 < davidc__> which would speed development enormously
18:43 < haykuro> yea
18:44 < haykuro> i can understand y
18:45 < davidc__> heh - debugging a kernel with the backlight as your only IO source is slow :P
18:45 < haykuro> lmao
18:45 < haykuro> quick question: is the ARM programming set a spin off of the gcc compiler?
18:46 < haykuro> because i downloaded something and during the make/make instlal it sais gcc a couple times
18:46 < haykuro> install*
